Walking after

EMMETT IS PLANNING an evening walk, as he often does. Marty and I are readying for bed; that can take an hour, and we go to bed so so early.

Somehow though, I pick up on a different energy from Emmett. I hear him go out. I lie there, feeling anxious about my youngest. It hasn’t been a good day.

Finally, I text him, thank him for all the help he gives his dad, tell him to enjoy his walk. Someday I will join you again out there in the moonlight.

Later, he returns. Through the walls I can hear him singing.

All is right with the world, just then.
